KARL GABL – METEOROLOGIST

„The meteorological briefing in the Mount St. Elias expedition was one of the most challenging in my whole career, as lasting good weather phases are not existent in this region. In the months with less precipitation it still snows 1,5m to 2m. Emotionally, I had some problems, as this permanent snowfall combined with only some short breaks keeps the danger of avalanches high in the steeper parts and only few centimetres are enough for a slab avalanche to drag the ski mountaineers under.”
