Peter Ressmann
On Friday the 28th May, Peter Ressmann tragically lost his life during a climbing expedition in the Austrian Mountains. Peter was an inspiration to everyone who met him or knew of him and will be greatly missed.
Our thoughts and condolences are with Peter’s family at this time.
The Mount St Elias team.
At the age of three his parents put him on skis for the first time and that was the beginning of his exciting career. Up to today the mountains are “Resl’s” life. He spends almost every second of his life on the mountains. He can be found on his bike, running or on a climbing rope in dizzy heights. He made his hobby his profession and until lately he was completely satisfied with it. His company is called “Alpine Experts” and that Peter is an expert cannot be denied.
And during the off-season, when he’s not guiding clients, Ressmann has time to experience some of the most amazing peaks in the world. He has skied China’s 7,500 meter Muztagh Ata as well as has joined fellow Austrian Axel Naglich on two attempts to descend Mount Cook’s as-yet-unskied Caroline face. In 2006 he successfully summited and skied 8,047 meter Broad Peak in Pakistan’s Karakoram Range almost from the summit.
When he takes a moment to contemplate what draws him to skiing, “big mountains, big lines not skied,” he says. “When you know that and you think it’s possible, then you have the feeling you have to do it.”
